Dr. Sara Brungardt is the Owner and Director of CalmOCD. With 15 years of experience as a therapist and a decade specializing in OCD and related conditions, she has built her career around one conviction: that people with OCD deserve better care than they're typically getting.
She founded CalmOCD in 2021 after watching too many people struggle to find treatment that actually worked. Specialized OCD care was hard to access, inconsistently delivered, and often missing the depth it required. Her answer was to build a practice from the ground up — hiring exceptional therapists, training them rigorously, and setting a standard for treatment that she wasn't willing to compromise on.
Sara specializes in working with men navigating OCD and anxiety. Men are among the most underserved people in mental health spaces, not because they don't struggle, but because the systems around them have rarely made it easy to ask for help. Her approach is direct, practical, and free of judgment. She also welcomes clients of all genders, with particular clinical interest in harm, sexual, sensorimotor, postpartum, and emotional contamination OCD subtypes, as well as perfectionism, misophonia, and OCPD.
What sets Sara apart is her refusal to treat people like a number. She takes the time to understand each person's specific symptom presentation before building a treatment plan, because even two people with the same OCD subtype can experience it in completely different ways. She believes that shame and guilt are already part of the burden her clients carry, and that the therapy room should never add to it. Her style is warm, relational, and genuinely invested.
Sara is licensed in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Nevada, and Utah, and currently offers virtual Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for clients in those states.
Outside of work, she enjoys thrifting, antiquing, traveling, and making trips back to Kansas to visit family. Arizona has been home for years, but she credits her upbringing in small Kansas communities with shaping a lot of who she is.
